If you have booked an airport transfer, our driver will be waiting in the arrivals hall when you land in Colombo.
Please look out for a sign with your name on it. Traffic depending, the journey should take around 2.5 – 3 hours.
If you have your own arrival adventure planned, check out these instructions:
•Enter the arrivals hall at Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport.
•Walk towards the far left corner of the arrivals hall trying to ignore all the taxi/transfer drivers who will be giving you their full attention.
•Exit the airport building through the far left hand door.
•You will see a few parked buses leaving once all the seats are filled.
•Find the one that will take you to Colombo Fort. This should cost around 200 rupees.
•The traffic can be hectic around the airport so this journey can sometimes take over one hour.
•Arrive at Colombo Fort bus station.
•Walk to Colombo Fort train station which is only 100 metres down the road or take a tuk-tuk to Maradana Train
Station for between 300-400 rupees. Don't let the tuk-tuk driver over charge you because he will probably try!
•Colombo Fort train station is closer, but you are more likely to get a seat from Maradana train stain as it is the first stop on the line.
•Be confident when boarding the train, it is very competitive and people will jump on to the train while it is still moving to guarantee themselves a seat.
•Once on the train, enjoy the ride, it’s a beautiful trip!
•There is usually a stop in Galle for about 15 mins where the TRAIN WILL CHANGE DIRECTION before continuing on to Weligama.
•Don’t be shy to check with a conductor if you’re not sure.
•Arrive at Weligama, have your ticket ready hand over as you exit the station.
•Gab a tuk-tuk for 200 rupees and ask for Kapparatota.
•Base camp is on the way to Jungle Beach. Look out for a long turquoise blue wall and the elsewhere sign on the right hand side of the road.
•Google Maps can be pretty helpful at this stage of your journey, don’t be scared to show them where to go. We can be found here!
Check out the train timetable using this website. Aim for the ‘Express Train’ to reduce your journey time.
The train costs less than 300 rupees so why not splash out on a 2nd-class ticket. Some trains even have 1st-class but it is rare on this particular line.
